Job Summary
The Junior Underwriting Officer, Family Takaful, supports the underwriting process by assessing risks, preparing policy documentation, and ensuring compliance with underwriting guidelines.
The role involves working closely with the Senior Underwriting Officer and other departments to deliver accurate and efficient service to clients.
Responsibilities
- Assess risks for low-value or routine Takaful proposals under supervision.
- Prepare policy documentation and ensure all details align with underwriting
guidelines. - Collaborate with the sales team to clarify proposal requirements and resolve queries.
- Assist in ensuring compliance with Shariah principles and regulatory standards.
- Maintain accurate records of underwriting activities and update databases
regularly. - Support senior underwriters in reviewing complex or high-value proposals.
- Uphold the highest standards of confidentiality in handling company-related
information, ensuring compliance with data protection laws and internal policies. - Adhere to the company’s information security guidelines, including proper storage, transmission, and disposal of sensitive materials.
- Promptly report any suspected data breaches or unauthorized access to the
appropriate company authority. - Participate in periodic data protection training to stay informed about evolving
security risks and best practices. - Execute any other duties and tasks that may be designated or assigned by the
Company. - Participate in the knowledge sharing programme of the department and the
company - To provide supports to your manager as may be required towards serving the Board, Management and staff.
Qualification
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Insurance, Business Administration, or a related field.
Certifications
- Entry-level certifications in insurance (CIIN) or Takaful are advantageous.
Experience
- Minimum of 1–3 years of experience in underwriting or related roles.
Skills and Competencies
- Basic understanding of Takaful principles and insurance underwriting.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to learn and adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and insurance software.

- Proposal Accuracy: Maintain error-free documentation for Family Takaful proposals.
- Turnaround Time: Process routine proposals within agreed timelines.
- Compliance: Ensure 100% adherence to underwriting and Shariah guidelines.
- Support Efficiency: Effectively assist senior underwriters with complex cases.
- Record Management: Maintain up-to-date and accurate underwriting records.
